I want to collaborate…

Work

How can I collaborate?

We need help in four areas: technology, legal matters, translation and the commercial side.

Where would you work from?

From home, via the Internet.

How much time would I have to spend?

It’s up to you. You decide what you want to do and how much time you want to spend. Only you know if you are willing and available. The only thing we want from you is that you choose a task, commit yourself to a deadline (which you also decide) and meet it. If you realise afterwards that you cannot meet your commitment, don’t worry, simply tell us as soon as you know. We don’t like people who don’t perform and don’t warn.

Tools

What communication tools do you use?

We use email, wikis, mailing lists, chats and VoIP.

Reward

Do you pay in return for collaboration?

No, only employees receive a salary. Both, employees and collaborators, receive shares in Negonation.

Is is true that you distribute shares?

Yes, absolutely true. We plan to distribute 25% of shares among all the people who help to create Negonation. In 2005, 5% of company shares were reserved and 3% was finally distributed. In 2006, we have reserved 4%.

When is the distribution made?

At the end of each calendar year. The next one will be in December 2006-January 2007.

How is the distribution carried out?

Straightforward meritocracy. The Collaborators themselves carry out the distribution. Your final distribution depends on your colleagues’ opinion of your work. Each Collaborator completes a table by distributing the available shares among the others depending on his/her perception of each person’s work. We collect the votes and disclose them. Everyone comments on the results and, if necessary, another round of voting is carried out. This goes on until a consensus is reached. In 2005, a consensus was reached after two rounds of votes/comments.

I’ve heard talk of the Glider prizes. What are they?

The Glider prizes are presented each time we finish a release (approximately every 3 months). The negonators choose the 3 most valuable collaborators of the release. The collaborator with most votes is named ‘Glider Hacker’ of the edition. Each winner receives 1000 €. The collaborators decide two of the prizes and the employees one. You can view the origins of the Glider Awards rules and the winners of past editions.

Next steps

OK, I want to collaborate. How do I start?
